Of all things that could go wrong . . .
At approximately 0630 hours (less than 4 hours before
formal dedication), Augie received a frantic phone call from the
Peekskill School District. During the prior night, vandals had
come on to the campus and toppled the new monument. Thanks to the
services of a boom truck owned by Dominick Giusti, '69 the stone was
righted shortly after 0800 hours. We owe a deep debt of gratitude
to Dominick, as well as the Custodial Staff of the Peekskill City School
District for promptly notifying us, and then polishing the monument
after it was reset. (Dominick also provided the frame for the
original PMA sign as seen on the first picture page as well as the
stairs leading to the monument.) |

The memorial is unveiled to the sounds of applause by
more than 300 alumni and guests Mission accomplished. After 33 years,
Peekskill Military Academy
is once again a presence by the Old Oak. |
